This Cal Football Grateful Bears What A Long Strange Trip It’s Been Cal Shirt is a front-and-back navy tee printed in Cal gold. Its design borrows heavily from classic Dead concert art.
The front reads “GRATEFUL BEARS” in tall, swirling lettering in the style of 1960s San Francisco concert posters. Between the two words stands a cartoon Golden Bear in a blue sweater, holding a football and leaning on the skull-and-lightning-bolt emblem Deadheads know as “Steal Your Face.” The pose is playful and a little mischievous, closer to a vintage Dead mascot than a stiff team logo.
The back is the centerpiece. “CALIFORNIA” arches across the shoulders in the same psychedelic lettering. Below it, the Steal Your Face skull is reworked with the Cal script logo inside the dome, surrounded by gold roses and green leaves. The roses nod to the Dead’s skull-and-roses artwork, recolored in school gold. Under the artwork, “WHAT A LONG STRANGE TRIP IT’S BEEN…” runs in clean serif type, finished with a small Cal script mark.
The sleeves carry small extra graphics: the dancing bear on one side and the Cal logo on the other.
