This was it: hit number 3,000. It was a pinnacle achievement, making him the first Latin American-born player to ever reach the milestone. Tragically, it would be his last regular-season hit. Just three months later, on New Year’s Eve, Clemente’s life was cut short in a plane crash during a humanitarian mission.
