“Where’s Wallace” comes straight from Season 1 of HBO’s The Wire. Wallace, played by a young Michael B. Jordan, was a sweet, soft-hearted teenager working in the low-rise Pit for the Barksdale organization. D’Angelo Barksdale, played by Lawrence Gilliard Jr., felt protective of him. When Wallace disappeared, D’Angelo kept pressing Stringer Bell for answers, asking again and again where the boy was. Viewers already knew the devastating truth, which made every repetition of that question harder to watch.

Over the years, the line became shorthand among fans for The Wire’s moral weight: loyalty, betrayal, and the cost the drug game takes on the young people caught inside it.
