The Meaning Behind “Doug Shows Is The New Laettner”

To understand the weight of this phrase, you have to know college basketball history. Christian Laettner is widely regarded as the ultimate villain of college basketball, largely due to his dominance at Duke University and his infamous, heart-breaking game-winning shot against Kentucky in the 1992 Elite Eight—a game where he also controversially avoided ejection.

Doug Shows is a veteran basketball referee who has become highly polarizing, often drawing the intense ire of fanbases (particularly in the SEC) for controversial calls and dramatic moments. By stating “Doug Shows Is The New Laettner,” the phrase humorously elevates a referee to the exact same level of infamy and villainy as the most despised opposing player in the sport’s history.

Wow, all three! Website was standard e-commerce, customer service promptly responded to my questions twice — though a bit indirectly, delivery tracking was a bit of a black box but once item cleared New Jersey customs I knew it was on its way.
